DermaSweep Particle Free Microdermabrasion By Shareef Jandali M.D. on July 25, 2013

DermaSweep Microdermabrasion

DermaSweep is a particle-free microdermabrasion that uses revolutionary patent-pending bristle tips for tailored and optimal results.  This avoids the uneven treatment that can occur with diamond-tip microdermabrasion.  Since it is a particle-free technology, no aluminum crystals are used in the abrasion process.  This avoids the crystals entering the eyes, mouth, or nose, and it is a much neater treatment, without crystals being left on the skin or in the hair.  The DermaSweep is designed to enable airflow through the bristles to allow the skin to be gently drawn into the bristles for a more effective and less irritating exfoliation.

Exfoliation and Collagen Formation with Microdermabrasion

DermaSweep has a vacuum pump that gently lifts the skin surface as the bristles on the device "sweep away" the dead layer of skin in a precise and controlled manner.  The skin is left smoother as the vacuum action of the wand stimulates blood flow and cleans the pores. The increased blood flow encourages collagen formation thus firming and toning the skin.

What Does Microdermabrasion Treat?

Typical conditions that DermaSweep microdermabrasion treats include:

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Sun-damaged skin / photo damage
• Melasma (irregular brown patches)
• Dull skin
• Hyper-pigmentation (brown spots and age spots)
• Acne scarring
• Enlarged pores
• Uneven skin texture
• Surgical scars

Microdermabrasion for Acne Scars

Acne scars are stubborn and difficult to treat.  However, a series of microdermabrasion treatments will slowly resurface the skin and smooth out the acne scars.  The key to improving acne scars is to stimulate collagen growth so that the scars become less indented with time.  In addition, the combination of a DermaSweep PeelFusion will help the texture of the skin and improve the dark discoloration of the scars.

DermaSweep Epi-Infusions

DermaSweep Epi-Infusion treatments combine microdermabrasion exfoliation with the delivery of skin specific topical solutions, leaving patients with fresher feeling and better looking skin.  DermaSweep’s topical solutions are formulated to treat specific dermatological conditions such as acne, dehydrated skin, hyperpigmentation, and sun damaged skin. The solution is applied under vacuum pressure at the same time that the system exfoliates the epidermis.

DermaSweep PeelFusions

DermaSweep PeelFusion treatments combine microdermabrasion exfoliation with the benefits of a chemical peel.  After the desired level of exfoliation is achieved, the skin is infused with a Renew (Jessner’s), Revive (TCA), or Remodel (Jessner’s + TCA) PeelFusion for total skin rejuvenation.  Each procedure is customized depending on skin type, preferred level of exfoliation, and results desired.

Microdermabrasion Side Effects

The treatment is painless.  The hazards typically associated with traditional microdermabrasion are eliminated.  DermaSweep does not use aluminum oxide crystals that can remain embedded in the skin and cause irritation.  It is normal to feel mild tightening or tingling of the skin after exfoliation.  Your skin will have a warm, pinkish glow that may last up to 30 minutes after treatment.

When are Microdermabrasion Results Seen?

Your skin will be instantly smoother and you will notice a vibrant glow after the first treatment. Hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and fine lines will gradually lessen over a series of microdermabrasion treatments.

How Long do Microdermabrasion Results Last?

Lasting and significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments spaced two weeks apart from each other.  It is important to enhance the treatment with a good daily skin care regimen and sunblock.  If you are undergoing an Epi-Infusion or a PeelFusion, then results will be seen after fewer treatments and will last much longer.

Downtime with Microdermabrasion Treatments

The DermaSweep treatment can be done during a normally scheduled office visit or one of our once monthly Saturday morning office hours.  You can return to your normal activities after treatment.  It is highly recommended to avoid direct sun exposure for at least a few days after your treatment and to use sunblock routinely.
