Labiaplasty with Local Anesthesia in Connecticut By Shareef Jandali M.D. on January 27, 2016

At the Feminine Rejuvenation Center of Connecticut, Dr. Jandali offers options for anesthesia for labiaplasty surgery. A labiaplasty can be performed either under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. 

 

For women with excessively long labia minora or uneven labia minora, a simple labiaplasty can be performed in the privacy of our office procedure room. The area is anesthetized with long-acting local anesthesia called Marcaine (bupivicaine). This injection also helps after surgery and there is no discomfort at all for about 6-8 hours. Pain medication is prescribed to take at home and icing can be performed to the area for added comfort. The majority of women we see choose to undergo labiaplasty in the office because of the cost savings since there is no charge for anesthesia or use of an operating room, as there would be in a hospital or surgery center. In addition, the office setting is the most discrete and private of all locations to undergo a labiaplasty.

 

For women who are addressing other body areas during the same surgery as a labiaplasty, surgery is performed in the operating room in the hospital or surgery center. Women are often undergoing a mommy makeover with any combination of procedures on the breasts or body, along with the labiaplasty. These can include a breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, liposuction, or a tummy tuck. 

 

If liposuction is being performed, the mons pubis area can be liposuctioned in women with excessive fullness in this location. For women that need extra padding on the mons pubis, fat grafting (fat transfer) can be performed at the same time as the labiaplasty. Fat transfer can also be performed to the labia majora in women who desire increased fullness and less skin laxity in this area. 

 

Labia majora reduction can also be performed to surgically tighten the outer vaginal lips. The scar is discretely hidden within the groove between the labia majora and minora.
