Breast Reconstruction: Case 4 This is a 43 year old female from Shelton, Connecticut, who was diagnosed with right breast cancer. She decided to undergo double mastectomies. Her breasts were reconstructed in two stages with tissue expanders placed at the time of the mastectomy. Even though her breasts had fallen with time, her breasts and nipple were lifted with the reconstruction. She had a special technique used, called a free nipple graft, to keep her original nipple and areola after the mastectomy. She therefore didn't need a future nipple reconstruction and areola tattooing. She had the tissue expanders exchanged to silicone gel implants at a second surgery. She is very pleased with her lifted and fuller breasts after reconstruction.
