Breast Lift with Lumpectomy or Partial Mastectomy in Connecticut

A lumpectomy or partial mastectomy is performed when a biopsy shows pre-cancer or cancer in the breast. It often leads to a significant cavity in the breast that can lead to a permanent indentation, especially when radiation therapy is needed. This can distort and deform the breast, and this can be very difficult to correct after radiation therapy.

Oncoplastic breast reconstruction can be performed at the same time as the lumpectomy or partial mastectomy. Oncoplastic breast surgery involves using a patient's own tissue from the same breast and rotating it into the cavity to fill it in. This prevents the deformity that can occur if no reconstruction is performed. For a woman whose breast has sagged with time and aging, the added benefit of oncoplastic surgery is that the breast is lifted at the same time. This breast lift is covered by insurance and a lift on the opposite non-cancer side is also covered by insurance to make the breasts symmetric.

Breast Lift with Mastectomy in Connecticut

For women who have large or sagging breasts and need to undergo mastectomy or double mastectomy, Dr. Jandali specializes in techniques to lift the breasts and save the nipples. One technique uses a breast reduction incision instead of the standard long scar across the middle of the breast. With this special technique, sometimes the only scar is within the fold underneath the breast (see photos below). This technique allows Dr. Jandali to NOT use cadaveric skin (Alloderm) to support the implant on the bottom half of the breast. It also makes the reconstruction less painful with less muscle spasms after surgery (when compared to placing the implant/tissue expander completely under the muscle).

For patients with large or sagging breasts, often the breast surgeon says that the nipple and excess skin need to be removed. Dr. Jandali perform a nipple graft in order to save the nipple in these patients. This lifts the position of the nipple and also avoid the need for future additional surgery to reconstruct the nipple and tattoo the nipple and areola.
