Stretch Mark Treatment in Connecticut

Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched too quickly, not allowing enough time for proper collagen formation and remodeling.  This often occurs with pregnancy, rapid weight gain and loss, and rapid muscle enlargement.  However, some individuals are just prone to stretch marks and notice them on areas of their body that haven’t changed.  The stretch marks are permanent once they form and often give the skin a thin stretched appearance.  Stretch marks can occur on any area of the body, but the most common sites are the abdomen, flanks, thighs, hips, buttock, upper arms, and breasts.

Microneedling for Stretch Mark Removal

The Dermapen® device is a revolutionary new way to induce collagen formation and remodel the skin.  The device uses disposable tips which contain 11 small sterile stainless steel needles.  The rapid action of the device causes hundreds of micro-injuries to the skin, which cause the skin to try to heal itself.  It stimulates growth factor release, fibroblast production, and new collagen and elastin formation.

Dermapen® microneedling is used for stretch mark treatment due to its ability to stimulate new collagen formation in the dermis of the skin, the layer which is thin in stretch marks.  This helps thicken the skin throughout the stretch marks, causing the stretch marks to fade with time.  Results are seen immediately and the skin feels and looks tighter.  However, the skin will continue to improve over 6-8 weeks after each treatment.  This is the amount of time required for new collagen formation and remodeling.  A series of 3-4 treatments is recommended, each about 1 month apart from each other.  Microneedling for stretch marks is performed in our Connecticut plastic surgery office and takes about 30-40 minutes to perform depending on the size of the area to be treated.
