Microneedling for Stretch Marks

Dermapen® micro-needling treatments are successful in lessening the appearance of stretch marks.  Stretch marks result from the skin being stretched too quickly or excessively.  This results in damage to the elastic fibers and connective tissue in the epidermis and dermis.  This results in the skin having marks which appear as thin loose scars.

Causes of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks most often occur with rapid weight gain and weight loss, pregnancy, excessive muscle formation with the use of anabolic steroids, or the insertion of breast implants which are excessively large.  They occur most commonly in females on the breasts, abdomen, or thighs.  When they occur in males, they usually occur on the upper inner arm area from excessive weight lifting.

How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Dermapen® micro-needling treatments cause hundreds of micro-injuries to the skin.  This stimulates the skin’s innate ability to heal with the release of growth factors and the formation of collagen and elastin.  This smoothes out the skin and causes the thin stretch mark scars to thicken, lessening their appearance, restoring their texture, and blending their appearance with that of the normal surrounding skin.

The makers of Dermapen® have now released a new topical treatment, Stretch Mark Minimizer Gel, which is used as part of the treatment protocol for stretch marks.  This gel was specifically formulated for use with micro-needling.
