The scars from breast lift surgery vary depending on how much ptosis (sagging or drooping) of the breasts is present. The scars can be on the top half of the areola, all the way around the areola, or a circumvertical pattern (“lollipop” scar around the areola and down to the breast crease).
After surgery, Dr. Jandali advises patients to use SkinMedica Scar Recovery Gel. This scar cream contains silicone and centelline, two of the only ingredients ever shown in studies to improve scarring. This scar cream is used after about 2 weeks of healing, once the incisions have sealed and any scabs have fallen off. SkinMedica Scar Recovery Gel is applied twice a day to the incisions for 1-2 months after surgery for best outcome.
We advise that patients also perform gentle massage of the scars starting about 2-3 weeks after surgery. This can be performed after the scar cream is applied. Massage has been proven to help scars remodel quicker and become flatter and softer. Scars continue to remodel and fade for up to one year after surgery.
