Dr. Jandali treats ear keloid scars at his plastic surgery practice in Connecticut. Ear keloids form when the body forms excessive scars on the ears, usually after earlobe piercing.
Ear keloids are best treated by surgical removal in our procedure room. At the time of the procedure, a small flap of skin will be raised and the entire keloid will be removed. The edges are then injected with steroid to help prevent the keloid from coming back. We urge all patients to wear compression clip-on earrings for months after removal of the keloid and this also prevents recurrence.
For ear keloids that recur even after removal and steroid injection, we refer patients to get a few doses of radiation therapy which suppresses keloid formation and has a high success rate.
