Over the past decade, improved techniques and equipment have allowed fat to be harvested from areas of the body like the abdomen and the thighs, and be transferred to the face to fill in deep wrinkles or creases. Fat Transfer vs Filler

Fat grafting has a few advantages over using an “off-the-shelf” injectable filler like Juvederm® or Radiesse®. Only about 50-70% of the fat injected remains viable, but after the first three months, the improvement is permanent and the fat stays there forever. Therefore, over time, it costs less and there is no need for injections every 6-12 months. Fat grafting of the face can be done in the office with local anesthesia. It is easily performed in the operating room when combined with another facial rejuvenation procedure like a blepharoplasty (eyelids) or a facelift.
