What to Expect During a Breast Reduction Procedure

Breast reduction surgery is performed through incisions on the breasts to surgically remove excess fat, tissue, and skin. Excess fat on the sides of the breasts is sometimes also removed through liposuction.

The incisions that remain are visible and considered permanent scars, but they do fade with time.  The scars should be hidden underneath most bras. Dr. Jandali uses an anchor-shaped incision pattern, known as a wise pattern, on most breast reductions that he performs.

The technique to reduce the size of the breasts depends on your height, weight, breast size and shape, amount of reduction desired, your personal aesthetic goals, and the Dr. Jandali’s advice.

Breast Reduction Recovery

When your breast reduction procedure is over, dressings or bandages are applied to the incision sites. In addition, a supportive surgical bra is provided to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal.

Sometimes a small, thin tube called a drain may be temporarily placed under the skin to remove excess blood and fluid from the breasts. Dr. Jandali will give you specific instructions for your breast reduction aftercare.
