Nipple and Areola Reduction in Connecticut
Jandali Plastic Surgery offers nipple and areola reduction for patients in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.
Excessively Large and Protruding Nipples
For women with overly large or protuberant nipples, cosmetic and functional issues may be a concern. Women often find it difficult to wear thin clothing or fear being in cold rooms without wearing nipple shields or multiple layers of clothing to cover up the nipples.
Excessively Large and Wide Areolas
For other women, the nipple size itself is normal, but the areola (the dark pigmented skin around the nipple) is especially wide, stretched out, or puffy. Overly large areolas can sometimes cover most of the breast and cosmetically bother patients. This can occur naturally after puberty or may occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
If this describes your nipples or areolas, Dr. Jandali's nipple reduction and areola reduction surgery may be an excellent choice.
Nipple Reduction Surgery
In the case of nipple reduction, it is usually the length of the nipple that needs reducing to make it slightly flatter and less protuberant. Dr. Jandali will remove part of the tip of the nipple, then suture the skin inward. Nipple reduction is a short procedure which is performed in the office procedure room under local anesthesia. The recovery is minimal and you can resume normal activity within about a week.
Areola Reduction Surgery
Reducing the circumference of the areola is also a simple procedure. This can be performed by itself, or in combination with nipple reduction. It is often also combined with a breast lift, because the breasts are often ptotic (sagging) after weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. To perform areola reduction, a circular marker is used to mark out a new smaller areola. This incision is then made along with another circular incision around the outside of the areola. The skin in between the two incisions is then removed and the incision is closed. This procedure also lifts the breasts slightly, which is an added benefit. The scar around the areola will fade and is camouflaged nicely between the darker areola skin and the normal-colored breast skin.
